How Self Reflection Can Help You Smile

Do you remember a time when opinions of others didn’t matter? Hmmm...what was that answer?

No...me neither.

The older I get the less time I seem to have, and when I do find the time I really feel the necessity to invest in taking care of myself by slowing down and hitting the pause button. It’s so easy to fall into the trap, get caught up with what other people are doing, and how they’re living their life. Sadly, what screws us up the most in our life is this picture in our head of how it’s supposed to be.

One day it just clicks… you realize what’s important and what isn’t. You learn to care less about what other people think of you and more about what you think of yourself. You realize how far you’ve come and you remember when you thought things were such a mess that you would never recover. And you SMILE. You smile because you are truly proud of yourself and the person you’ve fought to become.

You learn to care less about what other people think of you and more about what you think of yourself. You realize how far you’ve come and you remember when you thought things were such a mess that you would never recover.

Anxiety happens when we worry about the future, planning for it, and trying to predict it, as if figuring it out now will cushion the blow. The thing is the future is always changing and will always be a place of uncertainty and fear. But the future can also be the home of our wildest dreams and hopes. Don’t hold yourself back because of something you cannot control, instead adapt. The quicker you can learn to adapt and redirect time and energy the easier it become to get things things you value in life accomplished. Looking back at the past only causes us to ruminate over things we cannot change. Give yourself grace. Failures are an opportunity for us to reflect on what we did and how we failed, so we can change the mindset and path in the present moment.

A lot of my self reflection happens in those few moments I get to pause, while I’m home lounging around in comfy clothes like this new lounge wear from Third Love. It’s when I can strip off any of the fictitious labels that workout clothes puts on me as a fitness blogger or influencer and I can just think for myself. It’s funny how clothing can do that to a person, but it does. We often say “here are my regular people clothes” when referring to items that are not exercise gear so I guess I’ll label my lounge wear as “my pausing from life” clothes.

Third Love recently launched loungewear which is awesome because there are days where I just don’t want to be in workout clothing and silky PJs is just a little extra. It’s made with seamless bamboo, which means no itchy seams and naturally antimicrobial to keep you dry and cool.

ThirdLove is an internet based company who utilizes tech in order to help you find the perfect bra fit from the comfort of your own home. They even offer bras with half-sized cups which is incredible because I feel like I’m one of the 50% of women who fall between standard cup sizes. To start, you can take the Fit Finder Quiz.

ThirdLove let’s you Try Before You Buy (choosing from one of their best selling bras: 24/7 Classic T-Shirt bra, 24/7 Classic Full Coverage bra or 24/7 Push Up bra) or my personal favorite the Longline Lace Balconette Bra. You just pay for shipping and try it out (even wash it) for 30 days. If you like it, you keep it and if you don’t like it, you can return it and the bra is donated to both local San Francisco charities and women’s charities through their Bras for All program where they’ve given over $1 million worth of bras to women in need since 2013.

My thoughts on Embracing Your Body…

Lately I’ve been finding myself in conversations surrounding self acceptance and body positivity and what that all really boils down to. It’s lead to such amazing and interesting conversations. There’s either a strong sentiment of empowerment or a hidden whisper of complacency and I feel like it can dance on a very thin line, if we allow it to. The hardest struggle that women face these days is knowing and whole heartedly accepting that they can very well love their bodies no matter what shape its in and empower themselves to change their lives should they choose to. Self acceptance is truly about having the freedom to love yourself how you want to love yourself.

Body positivity can ebb and flow. One day you might feel 100% in love with yourself and the next you might not be having the best conversations with yourself. I want you to know that’s OK! Give yourself a whole lot of grace, self forgiveness, and let go of the restrictive mindset that’s keeping you from moving forward. You’ve got all that you need within yourself.

What’s the greatest lesson a woman should learn? That since day one, she’s already had everything she needs within herself. It’s the world that convinced her she did not.

Thoughts on Embracing Movement:

Have you ever once had this dogmatic conversation with yourself around what it means or looks like to be “fit”? For years I had this perspective on what it meant to be “fit”, but always desired to have some sort of healthy and active lifestyle. Reframing the conversation with myself has been a day to day challenge, but one that I always feel empowered to overcome.

These days I’ve had the challenge of finding what forms of movement I enjoy between yoga, high intensity circuit training, or weightlifting. The challenge is partially due to making sure that I don’t injury my shoulder any further, which that in itself has given me more of a mental workout than anything. Just like how body positivity can ebb and flow from day to day, so does that inner strength when you feel like you were your most optimal condition at one point and are no longer that due to unfortunate circumstances. After having some moments of what I like to refer to as fitness commitment issues I’ve come to really learn that although I like circuit training programs like BBG, I much prefer lifting weights and getting out doors on a track for some sprints and plyometric training. It’s just the way my body loves to embrace movement. For the past few months I’ve resisted it because I felt like I was getting bored, but after spending a two weeks to get back into the swing of things I realized its just my jam.

lululemon invited me in for a personalized fit session to try their brand new Enlite Bra, specifically designed for high impact workouts. Perfect for my love for plyometrics and sprints. The personalized fit session was such a treat to experience when shopping for the right sports bra because just like any bra you want to make sure that its comfortable and is everything you need for the type of workout you love.

I love this bra because it comes in conforms perfectly to your shape and body, streamlined without bulk fabrics or hardware, and the fabric is just like butter the skin making it comfortable for all day wear. My favorite part is that it offers the high support without the feeling of compressing the girls which can leave you feeling like you're suffocating.

While working your fitness its inevitable that your body will change. Maybe you're goal is to lose weight or to gain more muscle mass and build curves. Either way your mind and body will begin to go through change. The biggest change for me was my confidence and that meant finding new clothes that would suit that new change. I remember a time where shopping was just the most stressful thing ever. Things either never looked right or I was just seeing it through a lens of body dysmorphia and making up reasons why the clothes I tried on were just not right for me.

In the past two years a lot of my wardrobe became dri-FIT and luon. I turned into one of those women who lived, sweat, and ate in her workout wardrobe. This isn't a bad thing at all, but it got to the point where when it came to a non sweat event I struggled to redefine my style. So the past few months I've been really getting back into the swing of dressing up, shopping for non workout clothes, and shoes that were not sneakers. A couple of weeks ago I posted a photo of me in my new Cotton On stripped maxi dress, I loved the softness of the fabric and the feel of the dress that I ended up picking it up in black, which I love because it just gives the entire dress a whole different vibe.

Do you believe in more? Long before I started my wellness journey, I believed in more and wanted more for myself as it related to my health and exercise. In my mind I had always envisioned this version of woman who was in love with fitness and was ultimately doing it for her family. But like any big dreams or goals, doubt and fear became a challenge to overcome. It definitely wasn’t easy, but I knew that in order to raise incredibly strong women, I had to hold on to the vision I had for myself. After all, believing in your ability to manifest your dreams is the greatest source of power we have.

10 Ways to Dress Yourself in Self Love

10 Ways to Dress Yourself in Self Love

Self-love seems to be a really popular term these days especially when it comes to social media. #Selflove and #SelfCareTime seems to be the number one thing, besides balance in life, that people are striving to find these days. According to the dictionary, self love is regard to one’s own well-being and happiness. Sometimes, it’s confused with being narcissistic or loving yourself above all else without the regard for others. I believe that self-love is one of the most important things we can practice and its often the one that is most neglected. We all deserved to be loved, not only by others around you, but most importantly — YOU.
